Poppin Bottles

Poppin Bottles

Coming off our Assemblage workshop, we were pretty fired up about re-using old stuff and making it into something beautiful. It was perfect timing for the Holland Area Art’s Council to ask us to help them out by making a chandelier made out of old pop bottles.

We started by cutting bottles into the shape of flowers.

Then spray painted each bottle all kinds of different colors

Made sure not to forget to be a little goofy. Too serious = not as much fun.

We used string to tie all the bottles together and were amazed how well the finished Chandelier turned out! The Art’s council was able to sell if for some change at their yearly fundraiser, which left us proud that we can help support the arts in our community.

Unschool – Drawing Workshop

Unschool – Drawing Workshop

Good things are happening this Thursday after school at Ambrose. Two of my favorite artists (and human beings) will be taking us through a mind blowing session on drawing. Dennis Nagelkirk and Jason Rood never stop impressing me with the incredible level of detail and creativity in their work. Their workshop runs from 4:00 – 5:30 at the HAAC with a social time prior.  In case that wasn’t enough to entice; it is also my birthday so there will be cake and dancing.

Industrial Design & Drawing Workshop

Industrial Design & Drawing Workshop

Starting this Thursday we’re hosting a new series of after school workshops at the Holland Area Arts Council. Our goal is to introduce high school students (and the occasional mature 8th grader) to a variety of creative industries in West Michigan and some local folks making great things happen.

Our first workshop is this Thursday, November 4 and will feature Danny Larsen, principle designer for interiors at JCI. All workshops are free of charge and run from 3:30 – 5:30. More details are on Facebook.

Letterpressin’ With Lego

Letterpressin’ With Lego

My mind has turned, once again, towards printmaking. Letterpress. Screen-printing. Lithography. Flexography. THE SUBSTRATES! THE INK! THE PLATES! They’re all good…well…some better than others (imho). ha! In an overly image saturated culture it takes something special to flip my lid, which is exactly what happened when I saw these posters by Physical Fiction. Somehow they’ve managed to meld two of my favorite things in the world into one. Leg0 + Printmaking = Pure Genius!
